Spring Thaw and Reduced Load Limits: Are you prepared?
During Canadian winters, we all know the weather causes havoc with our roads and increases safety concerns.
In Quebec, in order to keep safety top of mind for our companies, drivers and the public that use the network of roads, the Ministry of Transport mandates revised load capacities for high risk “zones” during the thaw period. There are three zones of priority for decreased capacity, taking into consideration frost depth, thaw trends, and the heavy vehicle traffic.
TIP Canada wants to ensure that you have the information you need to stay safe - and compliant.
Note that dates are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change. For additional information please visit the provincial Ministry website below.
Quebec - Thaw Dates and Zones
The Ministry reminds users of heavy vehicles and shippers that the authorized load limits are reduced during the thaw period on all public roads. This is done every year to account for the road network’s lower bearing capacity during this period.
